How can we get more citizens to stop being afraid and to report illegal aliens?

They would have a lot less to fear in terms of retribution (retribution for being made to pay for crimes committed makes no sense, but that's how criminals think and act) if they would just get a backbone. I know I've gotten one and have been reporting any illegals I know left and right. How can we get more Americans to recognize and report illegal aliens?
