Faucet filter heat question?

Why is there a heat warning on the faucet filter not to use hot water with the filter. Does the heat damage the filter media or is the filter just ineffective when using hot water? What about if the faucet and filter are exposed to direct sunlight for most of the day, will that damage the filter as well?
